Changing the type of graph

Bringing up the Change Graph Type dialog

Click the Change Graph Type button.

This will open the Change Graph Type dialog:

Changing graph type within a family is no problem. Simply click on the kind of graph you want. For example, change from column chart with error bars to a scatter plot.

The choice circled in the screen shot above changes this graph type:

to this

An alternative is to use the Format Graph dialog, click "All" to change all data sets at once, and then make appropriate changes. Everything you can do in the Change Graph Type dialog (without changing tabs) you can also do in the Format Graph dialog.

Note: Changing from one family of graphs to another rarely makes sense

Each family of graphs, indicated by a tab in the Change Graph Type dialog, corresponds to a different kind of data table. It rarely makes sense to switch from one family of graph to another. You can experiment with making these changes, but may not get the results you are expecting. If you have the wrong family of graph, there is a good chance you also need to change the format of the data table.
