What's new in Prism 5.01?

Release 5.01 fixes a number of problems and adds some minor features. Updating is easy and free. While running Prism 5.00, Drop the Help menu, and choose Check For Updates. If you have any trouble getting the updating to work, submit your request at help.graphpad.com requesting a link to a full 5.01 installer. Be sure to include your serial number.

New features:

-On the output tab of nonlinear regression, you can now choose how to report interpolated X values when you entered replicate Y unknowns: In X column (like 5.00)) or in Y column (like 4.0, which preserves the arrangement of replicates).

-The installer now also installs add ons for Google Desktop Search and Windows Desktop Search (part of Vista; free download for XP). This lets you find Prism (and other) files instantly, as every word (titles, notes, legends...) in every file will be indexed automatically.

-Scripts can use %S variable which is the name of the current sheet. This means you can write scripts that export sheets named according to their sheet name.

- Added a button to view details or edit the second equation, selected in the "Compare" tab in the Parameters dialog of "Nonlinear regression"
analysis.

Fixes to nonlinear regression:

- Fixed the problem when weighting by 1/Y2, Prism 5.00 was  stopped by initial values that generate curves with Y=0. 

- Prism now interpolates unknown X values on nonlinear curve, even when fit is"ambiguous".

- Fixed the wrong initial value for "Mean" parameter in "Gaussian distribution" equation.

- Fixed the problem when a wrong model was preferred by AICc comparison, when "weighted" fit was performed.

- Fixed the problem when no value of 95% CI appeared for parameter, when upper limit of the 95%CI interval went to infinity.

- Fixed the problem when Prism did not interpolate X values if unpaired Y values in the first data set were situated lower than
 unpaired Y values in all other data sets in the table.

-Fixed bug in choosing most likely model using AIC. Prism reports the likelihood that each model is correct, and 5.00 did so correctly. It also states which one is most likely to be correct (and graphs that one). In rare situations, 5.00 chose the less likely model, which would be obvious if you looked at the two probabilities.

- Made the "Choose an equation" header flash if user tries to switch between tabs when no equation is selected in the dialog.

- Fixed the two-site competitive binding equation.

- Fixed rules for initial values in Gaussian and Lorentzian built-in equations.

- Report residuals from nonlinear regression when you enter mean & SD, and weight by SD. Residuals were not outputted in 5.00.

- Fixed outputting CI values in the summary table for the "parameter with CI" format. The exact CI values were outputted before the fix while format of output was +/- error.

- Now correctly fits curve when parameter constrained to be less than  a negative value. 5.00 actually constrained to less than the absolute value of that limit.

- Fixed the bug with applying relative constraints on the reported CI of the best fit value.  Now relative constraints (one parameter relative to another) are not applied to the confidence intervals.

- Now Prism can calculate Runs test from nonlinear regression even if the X values are not ordered.

Fixes to analyses:

- Fixed the problem when "Dunnet" test within "One-way ANOVA" analysis could not be calculated if analyzed table contains fewer than 5 columns of data with less than 3 values in each of them.

- Changed the default name of results sheet, generated by "Smooth..." analysis to "Integral of..." "Derivative of... " "Second derivative
of" or "Smooth of".

- Made it possible to calculate correlations with N=3.


Other fixes (in random order):

- Made it possible to replace a network license with a "single user" license from the Help menu.

- Changed the default for before-after graphs to be for the line to go under the symbols.

- Fixed the formatting of XY replicates of the box-and-whiskers. Box worked, but not whiskers.

- Fixed crash on a Magic dialog.

- Prism no longer creates an automatic custom gridline at X=0 (but does create one at Y=0, which is thin and dotted.)

- Removed "Sy.x" value from "Deming regression" results, since that value only makes sense for regular linear regression.

-  Y-axis titles in a survival graph can now be edited normally. 

- Prism now starts much faster.

- Toolbar tooltips no longer blink.

- Automatic  backups now occur while entering and editing data, not just when changing between sheets. So if your computer crashes while you are spending many minutes entering data, much will be backed up.

- Changed the algorithm of calculation of CI of parameter transforms,when at some point CI went to infinity.

- Prism installer can now install to a network folder.

- Made minimal required resolution for Prism to be 1280x720.

- Added the ExportTable command description into the script syntax summary.

- Allowed text objects to snap over the X coordinates of data points in the XY graph. 

- Made floating note borders wider so that it is easier to drag.

- Made toolbar tooltips bold.

- Improved Prism installer alert when installer file is incomplete or damaged.

- Made Prism widen the sheet name control on the bottom toolbar on the wider screen resolutions.

- Fixed Prism so that it works with Eudora mail program.

- Stop showing floating notes that have been deleted.

- Fixed the problem when data outside of the X axis range were plotted to the Y axis.

- Sending to PowerPoint 2007 no longer changes to slide view.

- Fixed the problem when X axis labels did not appear in two grouping variables bar graph in project, created by prior version of Prism.

- Fixed the problem when after deleting data from the column by hitting the Del key, decimal format was not applied to the new
entered values.

- Fixed the Paste Transpose function when it did not work after using it repeatedly several times.

- Fixed a baseline for the bar graphs with the Log scaled Y axis.

- When changing axis scale (log to linear ...) Prism now resets interval to its automatic value.

- Fixed the problem when "Each replicate" XY graph was not drawn completely if there were empty subcolumns in the data set. 

- Fixed the problem when the wrong help topic opened on clicking "Analysis check list..." toolbar button, while "Two-Way ANOVA" with
repeated measures results sheet was selected.

- Fixed printing when it was impossible to print line style for rounded rectangle or circle or arc.

- The installer has been fixed to work better under Vista, and now allows Prism to be installed on a Japanese or Korean Vista computer.

- Installer now includes a code-signing certificate, so you will no longer see messages about 'unknown publisher'.

- Fixed plotting of connecting line when axis is split to segments.

- When you switch to a log scale axis, the option for log minor ticks is automatically checked.

- Enabled the "Grouped column scatter" graph type in the "Create New Graph" dialog for "single value" Y data format. 

- Allowed changing of # of digits for scientific notation for axis labels.

- Prism no longer prompt to save changes if all you did is move from sheet to sheet.

- Enabled the show/hide row title option on right-click format-this-point (XY graphs).

- Implemented the "Duplicate" command in contextual menu, opened on drawn or text object(s) in a graph or layout sheet.

- Right click on an example in the Magic dialog, and see new commands "Move/Rename..." and "Delete Example" .

- Fixed the problem when the "Table Prism 1 Clear" command unhooked a table from its analyses and graphs.

- Fixed Column Statistics when all the data are in one row, and some data sets contain one row of replicated data and some data sets contain multiple rows of replicated data. 

- Fixed the problem when "Undo" did not undo text justification inside of snapped text object.

- Fixed the dialog for picking color scheme when it showed white (empty) stripes above and below the graph, not showing background color.

- Removed extra subpage for interpolated Y values of the linear regression results.

- Grayed the text toolbar menu for a label for a custom tick.

- If you put line at mean or median in front of data, now error bars are also in front  (column and grouped scatter graphs).

- Fixed the problem when "?" symbols appeared instead of "x" sign (multiply) in axis labels.

- When you split an  axis into two or three segments, assign  all the custom ticks to each axis segment. Case 191570.

- Disabled the "Format This Point"/"Format This Graph" submenu when there is only one data point plotted, as it makes no sense to change one point apart from its data set, when there only is one point.

- Fixed plotting of connecting line when axis is split to segments.
 
- Parameters dialogs of nonlinear regression, simulate data and generate curves analyses in the way user entered them, instead all uppercase.

- Made it possible to see parameters of orphaned results.

- Improved appearance of preview thumbnails in Navigator.

- Symbols in legends no longer expand when you enter a two line legend.

- Bar patters look ok in legends, even if you enter a two line legend. 

- Fixed the problem when row labels in embedded table, copied in results sheet, were not centered within cells.

- Fixed the problem when data were pasted incorrectly, when column titles contained date-like values.

- Made Prism ignore OpenOffice error "Err:503" in a cell when data are copied to Prism's table. 

- Fixed the problem when row numbers were plotted on X axis of the XY bar graph, instead of Row Titles that were set in the Format Graph
dialog.

- Removed the "Show table of XY values" checkbox from the Create Family of theoretical Curves analysis dialog.

- Fixed the problem when it was impossible to make error bar lines be plotted in front of symbols (same as "mean/median lines"). 

- Fixed Send to email command to be more compatible, including Novell Groupwise mail.

- Fixed the problem when data from the confidence interval section of result were pasted with qutation marks.

- Fixed the problem when Prism's graph, embedded into PowerPoint, appears corrupted, when it was opened in Prism for editing. 

- When Prism copies multiple cells, it puts quotation marks around multiword titles, so they paste properly into Excel. This isn't needed, and can get in the way, if you copy only one cell. No now Prism does not add quotation marks when you copy a single cell.
 
- Fixed the problem when special characters were shown incorrectly in the Hook Constant dialog.

- Fixed the problem when "International" symbols appeared changed after copying from Prism and pasting to MS Office in HTML format.

- Disabled "Clear" item in the "Axis Color" and "Title Color" palettes in the contextual menu opened on axis.

- Fixed appearance of special symbols on tool tips shown on graphs.

- Added "Row title" objects in the preview area in the Color Scheme dialog.

- Fixed the problem when highlighting of currently selected text disappeared after the "justification" toolbar dropdown was opened.

- Fixed the problem when garbage was shown on the location section of the bottom toolbar for column titles containing special symbols.

- Fixed the problem when selected text in text section of info sheet lost its selection while Font or Font Size was changed.

- Fixed refreshing of Prism window on resizing.

- Fixed the problem when changing axis scaling from Linear to the Probability (0...100%) made bars disappear.

- Disabled "Grids" and "Rulers" items in the "View" main menu in the "Gallery" mode.

- Fixed printing when column titles in the obtained printout of a data table had gray background.

- Fixed column statistics results in 1way ANOVA with excluded data sets.

- Fixed the problem when an embedded table could not be resized/moved when part of it went off sheet.

- Improved opening of p1 file, in particular, error bars and row titles.

- Fixed the problem when gaps (missing values) in the stack of unknown values were not maintained when creating the table of
interpolated results.

- Fixed the problem when pasting range of values with blank cells at the top, Prism did consider the top blank cell as "text" value and
paste it into title cell. 

- Faster starting and saving.

- Vista only. Double clicking on embedded graph (or layout) in PowerPoint didn't always launch Prism.

- Plotting graphs from StatMate.

- Floating note content not shown after applying color scheme.

- Fixed bugs when opening Prism 3 files.

- Removed extra percent symbols in two way ANOVA narrative results.

- Printing current sheet when two sheets selected.

- Fixed crash when you click outside the dialog warning you about opening Prism 3 files.
