Problems importing EPS files exported from Prism by another program.

Prism 5 can export graphs and layouts in EPS format. It exports EPS files using vectors and fonts and isn't just an EPS wrapper around a bitmap file.

Prism Mac always includes fonts within the exported EPS files (encoded  with the "Type 42" format). Most newer programs that import EPS files expect fonts to be encoded like this.

One customer had problems with text getting mangled when the EPS file was opened by PhotoShop Mac CS3. When he switched from Arial to Helvetica font, the problem went away. So if you find that vertical text is twisted, or horizontal text is poorly spaced after the EPS file is imported, try using a different font in Prism. We have no idea if this problem is iimited to Arial, or is more general. We also don't know if it applies to Windows as well as Mac.

Some programs that use older technology cannot understand this font format and will not be able to import the EPS files that Prism exports. The export dialog of Prism 5 (Windows only) includes an option to include or not include fonts in the file. If you don't include fonts, the file will be smaller and compatible with more applications. It was not possible for us to include this option with Prism Mac.

Note that if you export without fonts, and then transfer the EPS file to a different computer,  that computer must have the same fonts installed for the image to look correct.
