Bug: Prism 5 Mac can hang when importing data

When importing a text file (or pasting from the clipboard), Prism Mac can appear to hang if the values imported  have more than six digits after the decimal point. Prism tries to adjust the decimal format of its data table to handle the extra digits, but the table can't handle more than six digits after the decimal. Adjusting this is slow, and happens for each number, so Prism appears to hang or freeze.

Since the bug only happens when the data has more than six digits after the decimal place, you can avoid the bug by changing the data you are importing or pasting, to have six or fewer digits after the decimal place.

If you can't change the data, you can easily bypass the bug:

  1. Before importing or pasting, select the columns you will import or paste into.
  2. Drop the Change menu and choose Decimal Format.
  3. In that dialog, choose six digits after the decimal place (or whatever value you want) and uncheck the option   "Automatically increase as needed".
  4. Now import or paste the data.

This bug will be fixed in Prism Mac 5.0d. It does not affect Prism Windows.
