How to delete the license or serial number file (Windows)
This FAQ provides instructions to delete the license or serial number file in Windows. View instructions for Mac.
The serial number file is also the license file. Its filename varies by Prism version and activation type:
- Prism 7 and above: prism-license.qxt or prism-license.lic
- Prism 6: ssprism6.qxt
- Prism 5: ssprism5.qxt
Before Starting
Make certain that you have access to your license information (e.g. serial number or My Account) access if you need to go through the activation process again after removing the license file.
You might need need to be logged in with admin rights if your license is installed at the system level instead of the user level. In Windows the file is hidden, so you need to change your file preferences to show hidden files.
Delete the license file
With this complete (hidden files visible), locate and delete the Prism license file. The license filename is noted at the top of this page. The file may be located in one of these folders:
In Windows Vista, Windows 7/8/10/11 the license file is stored in:
- %AppData%\GraphPad Software\Prism\prism-license.lic (for Prism 10 and above)
- C:\ProgramData\GraphPad Software\Prism\prism-license.qxt or prism-license.lic (for Prism 7 and above)
- C:\ProgramData\GraphPad Software\Prism\6.0\
- C:\ProgramData\GraphPad Software\Prism\5.0\
In Windows 2000 and XP the license file is stored in:
- C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\GraphPad Software\Prism\5.0\
- C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\GraphPad Software\Prism\6.0\
