Exporting a Prism graph or layout as a high-resolution TIFF image?

Prism 4 and later

To export TIFF (and BMP) files at up to 1200 dots per inch: Go to the graph or layout you want to export, drop the File menu and choose Export.

One tip: before exporting a 1200-dpi TIFF file, reduce your graph to the size at which it will actually be published. Alternatively, maintain the larger graph size, but reduce the "Resolution (dots per inch)" setting in the "Export" dialog proportionately. For example, if you export your graph at four times the ultimate publication size, the 300 dpi setting results in 1200-dpi resolution after reduction to publication size.

If you are creating tiff files for a journal managed by Cadmus, this article provides some guidelines and suggestions.

Prism 4 and 5 were not able to export high resolution TIFF files when the graph or layout was very large. If you make smaller graphs, export works. This was fixed in Prism 6.

Prism Windows version 2 and 3:

Prism 2.0 can export TIFF files, but only at screen resolution (about 100 dots per inch). To export at high resolution without upgrading to Prism 3, copy and paste the graph from Prism to another program with high-resolution TIFF capability, then export the file. To export at high-resolution directly within Prism, upgrade to the current version of Prism.

If you installed version 3.03 from the full installer, you're ready to export at high resolution. From a graph, choose "File...Export...". In the Export dialog, choose to "Save as type...TIF bit map", then select the resolution below.

Owners of Prism 3.00-3.02 may or may not have the ability to export at high resolution, depending on what updates you've done in the past. Download and install the free update to version 3.03.  Go to a graph, choose File Export, choose Tiff. If you see high-resolution (up to 1200 dpi) options near the bottom of the dialog, select the resolution you want. That's it. If you don't see choices for high resolution, quit Prism, download and install the graphics export library, then restart Prism.

Prism Mac version 2 and 3:
Prism 2 does not export TIFF files.

Prism versions 3 and 4 for Mac can export high resolution TIFF or BMP files. Select a graph, then choose "File...Export...". In the Format box, select "TIFF bitmap". Select the resolution you want below.
