Decimal format

Prism automatically chooses the number of decimal points to display in a data table automatically.

To change the number of decimal points displayed, Select the column or columns you wish to change (click at the top of the column to highlight), and click on the Change decimal format button of the Change toolbar.

Notes:

•When you place the insertion point (click the mouse cursor) in a particular cell in a data table, Prism expands that value to show all digits. When you move to another cell, the value reverts back to the selected numerical format.

•It is not possible to change decimal format of a contingency table or the Y values in survival tables, since all values must be integers.

•You can only change numerical format for an entire column (or several columns). It is not possible to change the numerical format of individual cells.

Decimal separator

In some parts of the world, a period (point) is used as the decimal separator. In other parts of the world, a comma is used.

When entering data into Prism, you can use either a period or a comma to mark the decimal point.

When exporting data, Prism uses the separator you choose in the Export dialog. When pasting data, Prism uses the separator set in Preferences.

When importing data, you can specify how a comma is interpreted (as a decimal separator, as a thousands separator, or to separate columns of data).

Changing the number of decimals shown vs. the number Prism stores

Using the Decimal Format dialog simply changes the number of digits that Prism displays on the screen. It always stores as many as possible, and will include all these if you export or copy the data.

If you want to truly round the values to a certain number of digits after the decimal, you need to round the numbers to a specified number of digits.
