Did I lose access to some features when I updated Prism? (No...)

With new versions comes new functionality (but none removed!)

First things first: we do not remove features available for use for a given subscription plan from one version of Prism to the next.

So then why might you be asking yourself this question? Recently, we began offering different subscription plans for Prism, each providing different offerings in terms of features, functionality, and account management options. With each new version of Prism that gets released, some features may be introduced that are available for all subscription plans, while others may be introduced that are available only for a limited set of these subscription plans.

Moreover, new features being introduced may sometimes be improvements to existing features that were already available in one or more subscription plans. This is most often where the confusion occurs. As a result of these improvements and new functionalities, the appearance, layout, or design of some of these features that you've become familiar with may change slightly. But no functionality that you had access to previously will be removed after updating to a newer version of Prism.

This page will provide some examples of improvements and new features that have been introduced recently that augment existing Prism functionality and have been restricted to specific Prism subscription plans.

If you believe that you have lost access to any functionality that you previously had access to in a previous version of Prism (for the same subscription plan), please contact us.

Axis Variable Assignments for Multiple Variables Graphs

Kaplan-Meier Survival Analysis

What's new:

  • Automatic number at risk table on the survival graph
  • Multiple pairwise comparisons of groups
  • 95% confidence intervals for median survival of each group

Version introduced: Prism 10.5.0

The automatic number at risk table is automatically shown when creating a survival analysis:

If this feature is not available for your subscription plan, it will be shown as follows:

This table can be deleted by clicking it and simply pressing the delete key on your keyboard. Doing so will also provide instructions on how to specify the analysis parameters for the survival analysis so that this table isn't generated in the future.

Similarly for multiple comparisons of survival curves, the analysis parameters dialog appears as follows when this feature is available for your subscription plan:

Or as follows if it is unavailable:

However, this tab simply did not exist prior to Prism 10.5.0, so it's not possible that this feature was "removed" upon updating from an earlier version of Prism.

The 95% confidence interval of the median survival time is available for all subscription plans.

Automatic Cluster Selection

What's new:

  • Consensus method for automatically determining the optimal number of clusters based on source data

Version introduced: Prism 10.6.0

When performing K-means clustering (an analysis introduced in Prism 10.3.0 and only available on certain subscription plans), it is important to specify how many clusters your data should be organized into. In Prism 10.6.0, the ability to have Prism automatically determine the optimal number of clusters for your data based on the consensus of 17 different indices was introduced. As an analysis option for an analysis that was already available only for specific subscription plans, this improvement was made available only for these same subscription plans. No functionality was removed from any existing subscription plans.

And the same dialog when this functionality is restricted:

Individual Axis and Graph Title Controls for Magic

What's new:

  • Specify individually if the X axis, Y axis, or Graph titles should be updated as part of the Magic (make graphs consistent) process

Version introduced: Prism 10.6.0

The Magic (make graphs consistent) feature in Prism is a great tool for quickly applying the visual properties of one graph to another. This has long been a feature available in Prism, and although some improvements were made with Prism 10.6.0, no functionality was removed. Specifically, when Prism 10.6.0 was released, the Magic feature was improved to allow you to specify if you wanted to match the X axis, Y axis, and Graph Titles from the source graph on the destination graph.

In previous versions, these three titles were controlled by a single option in the dialog: "Change X axis, Y axis, and graph title to match example graph". With the release of this improvement, three new options were introduced:

  • Change X axis title only
  • Change Y axis title only
  • Change graph title only

These three individual controls are only available with an appropriate subscription plan, and when they're available appear like this:

You'll notice that the three individual checkboxes are available for selection. Additionally, the main checkbox ("Change X axis, Y axis, and graph title to match example graph") serves as a master control that will toggle on/off all three of these individual controls at once.

If this functionality isn't available for your subscription plan, this dialog will appear as:

Importantly, however, these three individual checkboxes never existed in versions prior to Prism 10.6.0 and the functionality that was available in those earlier versions (the master control) remains available in more recent versions of Prism.

Multiple Variables Graph Axis Variable Assignments in the Inspector

What's new:

  • Axis variable assignment dropdown menus for the X axis and Y axis of multiple variables graphs in the Graph Inspector panel

Version added: Prism 10.5.0

The Graph Inspector is a great way to quickly update your multiple variables graphs in real-time without having to navigate through dense modal dialogs. Changes that you make in the inspector appear immediately without having to commit or specifically "apply" changes. This provides a much more natural and intuitive method for exploring and visualizing your multiple variables data.

In Prism 10.5.0, controls for changing the axis variable assignments were added to the Graph Inspector. These controls allow you to quickly cycle through axis variable assignments to investigate the relationships between different sets of variables in your dataset. When using a subscription plan for which these controls are available, they appear as follows in the Graph Inspector:

If these controls are unavailable for your subscription plan, they will appear as follows:

It's important to note that even after these controls were introduced into the Graph Inspector, it's still possible to use the Format Graph dialog to change the axis variable assignments (as was possible in previous versions of the software). This method of variable assignment remains unchanged in newer versions of the software.
