Known issues between Prism 10.3.0 features and older versions of Prism
The table below summarizes identified issues that exist between features released in Prism 10.3.0 and older versions of Prism
Issue | How this issue occurs | Result | Solution |
Opening a file with a K-means clustering or Hierarchical clustering analysis results in a crash in older versions of Prism | Create a project in Prism 10.3.0 and perform a K-means clustering or Hierarchical clustering analysis. Then save the project using the .prism file format, close the file, and re-open it in an older version of Prism 10. |
An alert appears that the file was created for a newer version of Prism, and that some information will be lost. After clicking the "Open" button, Prism often (but not always) crashes This crash is observed in Prism versions 10.0.0-10.1.2 on Windows and 10.0.0-10.0.2 on macOS This crash is not observed in Prism versions 10.2.0-10.2.3 on Windows or 10.0.3-10.2.3 on macOS |
update to Prism 10.3.0 or newer |
Opening a file with a K-means clustering or Hierarchical clustering analysis results in a crash in older versions of Prism | Same steps as above. If Prism doesn't crash when closing the alert that the file was created for a newer version of Prism, attempt to rename the source data table for the analysis |
Prism crashes after renaming the input data table for K-means clustering or hierarchical clustering analysis. The crash is observed in Prism versions 10.2.0-10.2.3 on Windows and 10.0.3-10.2.3 on Mac. The crash is not observed in Prism versions 10.0.0-10.1.2. on Windows and 10.0.0-10.0.2 on Mac. |
Update to Prism 10.3.0 or newer |
Opening a file with a multiple variables heat map in older versions of Prism causes Prism to freeze | Create a Prism project with a heat map from a multiple variables data table in Prism 10.3.0. Save the file, close it, and re-open it in an older version of Prism 10 |
Prism freezes when opening the file. The freeze is observed only in Prism versions 10.0.3 and 10.1.0 on both Windows and macOS No freeze is observed in Prism versions 10.0.0-10.0.2 and Prism 10.1.1-10.2.3 on both Windows and macOS |
Update to Prism 10.3.0 |
It is not possible to save a file in a legacy file format (.pzfx or .pzf) if it contains a graph with Confidence Ellipses or Convex hulls | Create a Prism project with a multiple variables graph containing confidence ellipses or convex hulls. Save the project using the .prism file format. Open the file using a license for which these features are restricted, and attempt to save in .pzfx or .pzf format | It is impossible to save the project. The Compatibility Checker appears indicating critical incompatibilities in the file | Save the file using the .prism file format. If a legacy file format is required, a Prism license for which these features are not restricted must be used, or the sheets containing these features must be removed |
TeX equations inserted onto graphs or layouts become unlinked | Perform an appropriate analysis and insert the resulting TeX equation onto a graph using the Hook Constant dialog in Prism 10.3.0. Save the project, and re-open it in an older version of Prism | When the file is opened, the TeX equation will no longer be linked and the formula will not update as the source data or analysis parameters are updated | Update to Prism 10.3.0 or use the simple string version of the equation when inserting with the Hook Constant dialog. |
Avoiding these issues
None of the issues reported in the table above are present when using Prism 10.3.0 or newer. If you need share your Prism files with others, the easiest solution is to ensure that your colleagues are also using the most recent version of Prism. To ensure that you're using the latest version of Prism, go to Help > Check for updates or download the most recent installer from the Prism updates page.
Alternatively, if you have access to a Prism Cloud workspace, you may choose to publish your work to Prism Cloud, then share the published project with your colleagues.
What causes these issues?
Typically, when an older version of Prism opens a file saved by a newer version of Prism, any sheets containing features not available in the older versions will be frozen. this prevents any recalculations or other operations that result in modifications to the sheet. However, some older versions of Prism 10 are suboptimal in the way that they read sheets and interact with newer features.
