Does Prism (and InStat and StatMate) run on Windows 8 and 10?

Windows 10

Note the distinction between Windows 10 and 10s. Microsoft designed Windows 10s to only allow you to install software from the online Windows store. GraphPad Prism is not available on the WIndows store, so Microsoft won't allow you to install GraphPad Prism on a computer running Windows 10s. You'll need a full version of Windows 10.

Prism 7: We have tested Prism 7 under Windows 10, and everything works fine.

Prism 6: We have tested Prism 6.07 under Windows 10, and everything works fine.

Prism 5: Prism 5 is obsolete and no longer supported. We have not tested Prism 5 under anything newer than Windows 7.

StatMate 2.00 runs fine on Windows 10 (as updated May 2018; it had problems running on earlier releases of Windows 10).

On Aug. 7, 2015 we updated the installers for InStat and StatMate Windows (and their demos) with new digital signature to prevent security alerts when you download.

Windows 8

Which Windows 8?

Does Prism run on Windows 8? You'd think this question  would have a simple answer. But in fact the answer is both Yes and No, because "Windows 8" comes in four editions and there are enormous difference between them.

Windows 8, Windows 8 Pro and Windows 8 Enterprise run on computers powered by Intel chips, and are basically an upgrade from Windows 7. We have tested all our programs on the Windows 8 Release Preview in July 2012, and all ran fine. All programs that ran under WIndows 7 should work fine. You simply have to move beyond the new Windows start screen to the Windows Explorer in order to run any programs like Prism that also run on WIndows 7.

Although it shares the name, Windows 8 RT is entirely different. It is designed for devices (tablet computers) that use the ARM chip (not Intel chips). Prism, InStat and StatMate will not run under Windows 8 RT. No programs designed for older versions of Windows will run under Windows 8 RT. An entirely new generation of software is required.

Microsoft's Surface computer runs RT, while its Surface Pro computer runs Windows 8. So Prism will run on a Surface Pro, but not on a Surface.

Some cell phones also run an operating system called "Windows 8". GraphPad programs will not run on these devices.

In summary, current Prism (and InStat and StatMate) will run on true computers (powered by Intel chips) running Windows 8.  However no GraphPad program will run under Windows 8 RT, which is used on tablets and new convertible (keyboard can be removed) computers.
