Entering Japanese text into Prism
It is possible to enter Japanese characters into Prism. Before doing so, it is essential that you make some changes in the Preferences dialog:
- Go to the Preferences dialog of Prism.
- Go to the View tab.
- You'll see two (Mac) or three (Windows) buttons to change default fonts. On Windows, these buttons are labeled "Font". On Mac, they are labeled "Set...".
- Click the first of those three buttons.
- On the dialog that pops up, select a Japanese-supporting font.
- On Windows, also select "Japanese" in the Script dropdown of the same dialog.
- Repeat steps 5 and 6 for the other font buttons.
- Go to the New Graphs tab.
- You'll see six buttons for changing fonts.
- Click the first font button, and select a Japanese-supporting font. On Windows, also choose Japanese in the Script dropdown.
- Repeat step 10 for the other five buttons.
- Go to the View tab.
- At the bottom of that tab, uncheck the option: Autocomplete titles in data tables, graphs and info as you type. This is necessary because Prism's autocomplete feature competes with the built-in features (part of Windows and Mac) that let you enter Hiragana and convert to Kanji or Katakana.
- If you use Windows, quit Prism and reboot Windows to be sure the Japanese fonts will be used.
