Entering Japanese text into Prism

It is possible to enter Japanese characters into Prism. Before doing so, it is essential that you make some changes in the Preferences dialog:

  1. Go to the Preferences dialog of Prism.
  2. Go to the View tab.
  3. You'll see two (Mac) or three (Windows) buttons to change default fonts. On Windows, these buttons are labeled "Font". On Mac, they are labeled "Set...".
  4. Click the first of those three buttons.
  5. On the dialog that pops up, select a Japanese-supporting font.
  6. On Windows, also select "Japanese" in the Script dropdown of the same dialog.
  7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 for the other font buttons.
  8. Go to the New Graphs tab.
  9. You'll see six buttons for changing fonts.
  10. Click the first font button, and select a Japanese-supporting font. On Windows, also choose Japanese in the Script dropdown.
  11. Repeat step 10 for the other five buttons.
  12. Go to the View tab.
  13. At the bottom of that tab, uncheck the option: Autocomplete titles in data tables, graphs and info as you type. This is necessary because Prism's autocomplete feature competes with the built-in features (part of Windows and Mac) that let you enter Hiragana and convert to Kanji or Katakana.
  14. If you use Windows, quit Prism and reboot Windows to be sure the Japanese fonts will be used.
