GraphPad Prism and OS X 10.11 El Capitan

Prism 5

We know that Prism 5 launches under OS 10.11, but don't plan to test it in a detailed way. Several users have told us that Prism 5 is basically useless under El Capitan but we aren't sure how universal this is. We don't plan to issue any more updates for Prism 5. Your choices are to downgrade to Yosemite (you'll find lots of web pages that explain how), upgrade Prism, or wait a few months and hope that a OS X update will solve the major problems (we have reported all the problems we found in Prism 6 to Apple).

Prism 6

The final release of Prism 6, Prism 6.0h, fixes/bypasses many problems Apple introduced with OS X 10.11 El Capitan. If you are using 10.11.0, we strongly recommend updating to 10.11.1 (or whatever is current when you read this) as the first release 10.11.0 had many problems. Here is a list of fixes in 6.0h

To update, drop the Help menu and choose Check for updates.  If you have problems, submit your request at help.graphpad.com with your serial number. Or download the full installer here.

If you still have issues, please read this FAQ.

There is one problem that we have not fixed in 6.0h, but we hope Apple will fix in an OS X update. The problem is with the new color pencil tab in the color picker, which replaces the crayons of earlier OS X versions. The pencils tab looks weird and is almost unusable. But the other tabs work fine, so you'll need to use another method to pick colors. The problem arises because Prism 6 was written to work on older computers running Snow Leopard that cannot be updated. To do this, we use an older version of the Xcode development environment (the one that was current when Prism 6 was developed). All programs that use this older Xcode version will have the same issue with choosing colors using the color pencil tab.

Prism 7

Prism 7 was released in April 2016 and is fully compatible with OSX 10.11 El Capitan.
