How does Prism function on a network? What are the network system requirements?
** Note: We no longer sell network licenses for GraphPad Prism. This information is for legacy licenses.
Prism has no special network requirements, other than a network of computers at a single location.
You can install the Prism application on any hard drive shared on the network. We call this the "server", but any hard drive on the network can be used. Prism does not rely on any special server software.
To run Prism from another computer, you merely need to create a shortcut icon (called an "alias" on Macs). This icon launches the Prism program that is stored on the networked computer (server). Creating such an icon just takes a few seconds for someone familiar with the Windows or Mac operating system.
Note that Prism does not actually run on the server's CPU. The server acts simply as a shared disk drive from which Prism is loaded into the individual workstation's working memory. This means that any networking scheme works fine, and no network database is required or used. Prism is loaded from the "server" each time Prism is run. This means about 25 MB is transferred. The first time Prism is used on a particular computer, about 25 MB of companion files are transferred and stored.
We do not allow Prism running under Citrix, Keyserver, Terminal Server or in a virtual desktop environment.
