KNOWLEDGEBASE - ARTICLE #1223

I create axes with the numbers in scientific notation. But it prints with "?" instead of "x".

Although GraphPad works hard to make sure our programs work in all countries, this is one place where Prism works differently in different countries. Prism uses "x" (multiply) ANSI symbol on axis numbering with scientific notation. But in some countries, this symbol may appear different, and the scientific notation on the axis doesn't look right when you print or export.

If you are using Prism 5.00:
-Upgrade free to 5.01 (or later) which fixes the problem.

If you are using Prism 4 and don't want to upgrade, here are two ways to bypass the problem:

- Change the font for axis numbering in the Format Axes dialog to use a Western character set. This is set in the Format Axis dialog.  Times New Roman with Western charset works well.

OR

- Go to: Control Panel -> Regional and Language Options -> Advanced tab. Then set "English (United State)" in "Language for non-Unicode programs". Once you have printed or exported the graphs, don't forget to set it back to your own language.
