I need hints for installing and running Prism in Windows 2000 or Windows NT.
- You must be an "administrator", not a "user", to install Prism.
- The serial number is saved into a file named ssprism3.qxt (Prism 3) or ssprism4.qxt (Prism 4).
In Windows 2000, this file will be saved into:
V3: Documents and Settings\All Users\prism\ssprism3.qxt
V4: Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\GraphPad Software\Prism\4.0\ssprism4.qxt
In Windows NT, this file will be saved into
C:\WINNT
- Regular users cannot save to the Prism folder if it is within the "Program Files" folder (the default). So if you want to save Prism projects within the Prism folder, or if you wish to save templates or method files (which always go into subfolders within the Prism folder), you must either log on as an administrator or install Prism to another folder. Prism 4.02 lets you specify that templates are saved (and retrieved) from a different folder. Use the Preferences dialog to establish this.
- Prism must be able to save its configuration file (prism3.cnf, which sometimes is shown as a "speed dial" file, in Prism 3; prism4.cfg in Prism 4) into one of the following folders in WIndows 2000:
..\Documents and Settings\[Owner]\Application Data\Prism\
..\Documents and Settings\[Owner]\Application Data\GraphPad Software\Prism\4.0
In Windows NT, this file is saved into C:\WINNT. Be sure that folder isn't protected from writing. - For the network version of Prism, remember that by default, the licenses folder goes into the Prism folder. If running under Windows 2000, and if Prism is to be used by computers logged in as "users"rather than administrators, you will need to change the location of the licenses folder.
- Prism must be able to save temporary files, or it will quit. Therefore you must set the permissions so you (or your user) has full access to this folder in Windows 2000:
..Documents and Settings\[administrator]\Local Settings\Temp
With Windows NT, the folder is C:\WINNT\TEMP
