A red 'X' placeholder is displayed in my Prism graph/layout instead of a PDF file or pasted MS Office image
The Problem
An image imported or copied to a Prism graph or layout may appear as a placeholder with a red 'X' or cross after saving and re-opening the Prism project. This issue may occur with images copied from Microsoft Office applications or imported PDF images while using Prism version 10.1.0.
What can I do?
This issue only occurs with images that were added to Prism in version 10.1.0. Updating to Prism version 10.1.1 or newer will fix this issue so that - in most cases - these image files will no longer be displayed incorrectly. To update Prism, go to Help > Check for updates or download the latest installer from the Prism updates page.
As mentioned above, Prism 10.1.1 and newer versions will be able to recover most files corrupted in this way when the file is opened. However, there are some cases in which the image file has been permanently lost, and you will have to import or copy the image into Prism again. This generally occurs when the sheet containing the affected image was duplicated/edited, and the file was re-saved using Prism 10.1.0.
In general, the best option to address this issue is to update to the most recent version of Prism.
Why does this happen?
This issue occurs due to a bug in the way that Prism 10.1.0 stored image formats when copying images from Microsoft Office or importing a PDF image. In rare cases, duplicating a sheet or family containing an affected image or copying and pasting the affected image may result in the image being lost permanently.
