Troubleshooting problems with layouts
Problem: Graphs missing from layout
There is a bug in Prism 5.00, 5.01 and 5.0a, that is now fixed. The problem occurs when a layout contains an image or picture (not a Prism graph) and you then add a Prism graph by drag and drop. That last Prism graph seems fine as you use Prism. But if you save the file and then open it, the graph is missing from the layout. There is an easy work around. Instead of dragging the graph from the navigator and dropping onto the layout, double click on a placeholder and then choose a graph.
This bug was fixed in 5.02 and 5.0b.
Problem: All objects end up at the bottom of the layout page
Several Prism 5 mac users noticed that when they open a Prism file, all graphs and tables (etc.) are located at the bottom of the layout page. Somehow Prism forgot where on the page each object is supposed to go, so superimposed them all at the bottom of the page.
We know of one scenario where this can happen:
- Create a layout using a standard paper size.
- Before saving the file, check the option "Do not save (or read) the page size..." in Prism preferences (File&Printer tab).
- Change the default printer (system options) to one with a tiny page size, for example an envelope or label.
- Open the file. Prism now finds that the objects you created on the layout cannot fit on the default page size. It just puts all the objects at the bottom of the page in this situation.
The fix for this situation, of course, is to change the default printer driver to use normal size paper.
One person had the problem with all objects piled up at the bottom of the page, but with the page size set correctly. We never could figure out what happened in that case. Reinstalling the printer driver solved the problem.
