Updating data in Prism linked to Excel.

How to link Excel data to Prism

Prism Windows (but not Mac) can link to Excel data.To do this, copy a block of data from a saved Excel worksheet, go to a Prism data table, and choose Paste Link from the Edit menu.

Automatic vs. manual updates

So long as both the Excel and Prism files are open, updating is automatic. Change data in Excel and save the Excel file, and the change appears in Prism. You don't have to do anything.

If you want to make the linking not be automatic, drop the Edit menu in Prism and choose LInks. Select the link you want to change (or select several) and then check the option for Manual links at the bottom of the dialog.

Manually provoking an  update of one data object

After closing both files, and then reopening, Prism may need a nudge to update data linked to Excel. To do this, double click on the data object to bring up the Import and Paste Special dialog. Click the Update button at the lower right corner.

Manually provoking updating of all linked data objects on a table

Drop the Edit menu in Prism, and choose Links.

The right side of the LInks dialog has a button labeled "Update now". Clicking that may provoke updating of all your links. If not, click on the top link to select it. Then hold shift and click on the bottom link in the list. Now, all should be selected. Now click Update Now and all the links should update.
